Grass and Snow
Homeowners, commercial property owners and condominium associations grow tired of the revolving door of contractors who are good at either grounds maintenance or snow removal—but not both. Here's how Moscarino Outdoor Creations delights residents and tenants...all year long.
In a recent episode of "America's Got Talent," I just loved a comment David Hasselhoff (a.k.a. "the Hoff") made to an aspiring Mia Boostrom who had been rejected the previous year and came back better than ever. He said, "You can't fail in life unless you quit. You're not a quitter and I love that."
Less than a week later, I heard similar praise from Lorrie Smith, Chairperson of the Emerald View Homeowner's Association in Fairview Park, as she spoke to me about Moscarino Outdoor Creations. With many homeowners' and condominium owners' associations beginning to search for contractors for their upcoming snow removal( sorry to bring this up , folks ) and to handle their grounds maintenance next year, I thought a visit to this upscale neighborhood would prove timely.
"Chas [Moscarino's company president] came to us to quote on complete year-round grounds maintenance of our development," Lorrie explained. "We've had mixed results with other companies over the years, and we were determined to be very careful about who we hired this time. But Chas was just as determined to earn our business. He kept coming back with answers to our questions and solutions to our problems. He didn't give up. And I am so happy he didn't. We hired his company and I would put them on contract for the next 20 years if I could...and you can quote me on that."
"We had quite a situation," Lorrie continued. "When we found a company that did well in snow clearance in the winter, their grounds maintenance seemed to be lacking in the summer. When we found a company that did an adequate job in the summer, they really dropped the ball in winter."
She was clearly frustrated. "We have some seniors who need to be able to get in and out without problems in the winter," she added. "Dave, our account manager with Moscarino, is right on top of things and is always available when we have a problem. They have the necessary staff and equipment to ensure that they do a proper job on time, every time."
"In the spring and summer, Moscarino does every bit as good of a job," Lorrie insisted. "I moved from an area where we had a much larger yard. In a cluster home environment like we have here at Emerald View, it's very important that the smaller yards be well manicured. I like the beds to be edged properly and the lamp posts to be cut in as well. I am happy to report that there have been no problems. The grounds look wonderful."
"We hired [Moscarino] and I would put them on contract for the next 20 years if I could...and you can quote me on that."
It's satisfied customers like Lorrie who are clearly responsible for the continued growth of Moscarino. With over 50 full time employees now on staff, Moscarino has become a remarkable success story, one that our community can be proud of. And thanks to their large size, businesses, retail establishments, and housing and condominium developments have a one-stop source for snow removal, landscaping and grounds maintenance. In fact, some of their clients have found that utilizing the resources of Chas and company have allowed them to put aside the need for expensive in-house maintenance departments.
But with their size, I was curious as to whether their customers still receive the same personalized, pro-active service that brought so many clients to Moscarino early on. Lorrie had a fast response to this question: "These folks constantly go above and beyond. They always seem to be a step ahead in meeting our needs."
With a strong portfolio of respected commercial and residential customers, Moscarino Outdoor Creations is now inviting new prospective clients to call and discuss their landscape care and commercial snow removal needs for 2009 and 2010.
When I asked company vice president Chris Moscarino for any comments for this story, he told me, "Just make sure you extend our gratitude to our customers for their business. And please let people know that our greatest pride is in helping people like Lorrie Smith over at Emerald View. Any time we can step in and satisfy a client who has been disappointed with their previous landscape maintenance company, that's a good thing."
